I wrote a separate article comparing Dale Murphy to Jim Rice. In that article, I noted that Murphy compiled more context-neutral career wins over replacement level (eWORL) than Rice (32.9 to 29.2), but that when player wins are put into context and tied to team wins, Rice beats Murphy in career pWORL, 33.3 to 24.6.

In fact, the difference between Dale Murphy's career pWORL and his career eWORL is one of the most extreme differences of any player for whom I have calculated Player won-lost records. The table below shows the players with the 20 largest career gaps: eWORL - pWORL.

I leave it as an exercise for the reader to decide how much blame Dale Murphy deserves for the Atlanta Braves of the mid-to-late 1980s being particularly bad at converting "context-neutral" statistics into team wins.
