In 2001 Sammy Sosa had a monstrous season. He led the major leagues in runs scored (146), RBIs (160), and total bases (425). He batted .328 with an OPS of 1.174, good for an OPS+ of 203. Oh, and he also hit the 5th-most home runs in major-league history, 64.

Measured by context-neutral, teammate-adjusted wins over replacement level, eWORL, Sammy Sosa's 2001 was one of the top 25 seasons of the Retrosheet Era.

Yet, when it came time to vote for the NL Most Valuable Player, Sammy Sosa received only two first-place votes and, honestly, he didn't deserve either one of them. Of course, this is because Barry Bonds had an even more monstrous 2001 season. In fact, Barry Bonds in 2001 had the highest single-season eWORL of anybody for whom I have calculated a Player won-lost record.

The next table shows the top 20 single-season eWORL totals compiled by players who did not lead their league in eWORL.
