This is Sammy Sosa's second year on the Hall-of-Fame ballot. In my 2013 Hall-of-Fame ballot series, I looked at how Sammy Sosa's 2001 season ranked among seasons that did not lead their league.

For this year's article, I am going to take a look at Sammy Sosa's peak and how he ranks among major-leaguers within it.

Sammy Sosa's Hall-of-Fame case is mostly concentrated into a 5-year peak from 1998 - 2002, in which he hit 60 or more home runs three times, led the league in home runs the other two years (with only 49 and 50 home runs), and finished in the top 10 in MVP voting all five seasons (winning in 1998).

Sammy Sosa's career looks more valuable in (context-neutral, teammate-adjusted) eWins than in pWins (which tie player wins to team wins).

The top 10 players in eWins over replacement level from 1998 through 2002 are shown in the next table.

Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds were a clear cut above everybody else over this time period. But Sammy Sosa was the best of the rest.
