This is Barry Bonds's third appearance on the Hall-of-Fame ballot. In my 2013 Hall-of-Fame ballot series, I compared Bonds to the best non-Bonds position players in the major leagues over Barry Bonds's prime: 1990 - 2004. For my 2014 Hall-of-Fame ballot series, I compared Barry Bonds's 2001 season to Babe Ruth's 1927 season.

In 2007, Barry Bonds set the major-league record for career home runs with a final total 762. For this year's article, I am going to compare Barry Bonds to the man whose record of 755 home runs he broke: Hank Aaron.

The next table compares the major-league careers of Barry Bonds and Hank Aaron, as measured by Player won-lost records.

For his career, Barry Bonds bested Hank Aaron by about 18 pWins over positional average (pWOPA) and 13 pWins over replacement level (pWORL). That difference in entirely due to Barry Bonds's otherworldly performance from age 36 (2001) through age 39 (2004). Through age 35, Aaron's and Bonds's career performances were actually quite similar, with Bonds beating Aaron somewhat relative to average (37.9 - 35.2) but Aaron edging Bonds relative to replacement level (62.5 - 60.1).
