This is Gary Sheffield's second year on the ballot. In my 2015 Hall-of-Fame series, I compared Sheffield to Hall-of-Famer Harmon Killebrew.

This year, I look at where Sheffield ranks among all batters for whom I have calculated Player won-lost records.

Gary Sheffield's Hall-of-Fame case derives almost entirely from his hitting. For his career, Sheffield batted .292/.393/.514 with 2,689 hits (67th in major-league history), 509 home runs (25th in major-league history), 1,636 runs scored (38th), and 1,676 RBI (27th). The next table shows the top 25 players in batting wins over non-pitcher average since 1961.
