This is Edgar Martinez's 8th year on the BBWAA Hall-of-Fame ballot. Last year, he appeared on 43.4% of ballots.

I began writing articles about Hall of Fame candidates with the 2013 Hall-of-Fame ballot (which was released in late 2012), Edgar Martinez's fourth year on the ballot. Hence, this is the fifth article which I have written about Edgar Martinez.
Edgar Martinez is almost universally thought of as a designated hitter. The MLB award for Best Designated Hitter is named the Edgar Martinez award. But Edgar Martinez was the Seattle Mariners' starting third baseman (when healthy) in his first six seasons, 1989 - 1994.

The next table, then, looks the top 10 third basemen of the first half-decade of the 1990's, 1990 - 1994.

Obviously, the bulk of Edgar Martinez's Hall-of-Fame case came after he became a full-time DH. But early in his career, when he was a third baseman, he was one of the best.
