At first glance, Melvin Mora's career path looks fairly typical. He gradually improved over his first four seasons, took a fairly big step forward in his fifth season, stayed at peak level for about three seasons before declining over his final six seasons.

In fact, however, Melvin Mora's career was fairly unusual. He made his major-league debut at the age of 27 and his peak, in his fifth through seventh seasons came at ages 31 - 33. As far as I know, there wasn't any particular reason for Mora's late start; he was just a late bloomer.

The next table, then, identifies the players most similar to Melvin Mora in career value from age 31 onward, as measured by Player won-lost records.

The latter set of names are perhaps a step up from the first set, although, not surprisingly, there are no Hall-of-Famers to be found on either list.
