This is Sammy Sosa's 5th year on the BBWAA Hall-of-Fame ballot. Last year, he appeared on 7.0% of ballots.

I began writing articles about Hall of Fame candidates with the 2013 Hall-of-Fame ballot (which was released in late 2012), Sammy Sosa's first year on the ballot. Hence, this is the fifth article which I have written about Sammy Sosa.
Sammy Sosa is primarily a Hall-of-Fame candidate because of his 609 career home runs (8th-most all-time) and his three seasons with over 60 home runs (the most all-time). In his youth, however, Sammy Sosa was a five-tool player. He stole over 30 bases in a season three times (twice pairing 30 stolen bases and 30 home runs). He had enough range in the outfield to have played 234 games in center field (1,760.1 innings) in his career. His arm was strong enough to amass double-digit outfield assists five times and 143 assists in his career. In fact, Player won-lost records think that Sammy Sosa was a very good defensive right fielder for most of his career.

The next table shows the top 25 right fielders in net fielding wins among all players for whom I have calculated Player won-lost records.

That's not enough, by itself, to make Sammy Sosa a Hall-of-Famer. But it's a nice little feather in the cap of a guy with 609 career home runs.
