This is Vladimir Guerrero's first year appearing on a Hall-of-Fame ballot.

Vlad Guerrero was primarily a rightfielder for most of his career. Defensively, he had a reputation for having a very strong throwing arm. Offensively, Guerrero was a high-average, low-walk hitter who could hit anything hard. He finished his career with a career batting average of .318, 2,590 hits, 487 unintentional walks, and 126 outfield assists.

A player from the past with a similar profile is Roberto Clemente. Clemente finished his career with a .317 batting average, 3,000 hits, 454 unintentional walks, and 266 outfield assists.

Guerrero hit more home runs than Clemente, 449 - 240, although Clemente had more triples, 166 - 46.

The next table compares Vlad Guerrero and Roberto Clemente as measured by Player won-lost records.

Clemente was better, although their career totals are, perhaps, closer than one might have expected. Clemente was slow to develop, hitting .300 for the first time at age 25, while Guerrero batted .302 at age 22 and .324 at age 23. Also, while Guerrero's career ended naturally after his age-36 season, Clemente's career was cut tragically short while he was still going strong at age 37. Overall, I think it's an interesting comparison.
